On Twitch, games come and go.

The biggest streamers can bring new titles a lot of attention, but most hot games on Twitch are fads, brand new titles that don’t have staying power.

But last year, something weird happened.

Twitch got hooked on a new game - except it wasn’t new at all.

Chess broke all the rules of Twitch.

It’s a 1,500 year old game with no graphics, no hype esports scene, and the slowest gameplay imaginable - but it succeeded anyway.
